Purple Land Management
After starting his career as a petroleum landman at Four Sevens Operating, in January of 2010, Jesse partnered with former TCU teammate Bryan Cortney to co-found Purple Land Management (PLM), one of today’s most successful land service companies in the energy industry. Together they defined what is known today as “The Purple Way,” a mission and guiding philosophy to “Give More Than You Take™”.
As a full service land company, PLM offers comprehensive, tech-enabled land services, including lease negotiation, right-of-way acquisition, title and curative review, GIS mapping, contract review, verification, and guidance on acquisitions of oil and gas assets.
As President, the company established twelve field offices in every major basin in the United States. PLM grew quickly, as Jesse built critical partnerships with leaders in the oil and gas business.
PLM had over 200 master service agreements at the time he completed his term as president.
Despite a major collapse in oil and gas prices in 2015, PLM’s revenue rose more than 20 percent to $40 million. Confirming their strong industry positioning and growth, Inc Magazine recognized Purple Land Management on their Inc. 5000 list as one of the fastest-growing private companies in America. The land management firm was honored with this award on three separate occasions.
A strategic investment in technology further increased PLM’s profits and market share. To offer a superior product to their clients, PLM developed Overdrive®. After eight years as a profitable, debt-free and privately-held company, Jesse and partner (Bryan Cortney) sold a controlling interest in PLM to Satori Capital in 2018.
SilverTip Energy
In the winter of 2018, Jesse founded SilverTip Energy. The company is strategically focused on aligning with Exploration and Production companies seeking new areas of interest.
To gain new land positions for their partners, SilverTip Energy leverages proprietary datasets, well-established professional networks, and industry research.
Purple Land Management
To offer the highest value product in the land services industry, Jesse spearheaded Purple Land Management’s entry into the software as a service (SaaS) industry. In 2015, Overdrive® was developed. Purple Land Management partnered with Esri®, the world's leading geographic mapping technology company, to develop their proprietary data management software platform.
With Overdrive®, PLM became an innovator in an industry known for being antiquated. The integration of technology allowed the land service company to fully modernize the leasing process. For the first time in history, any sized operator had access to secure, in-house Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data at a cost-effective price.
One of the greatest appeals of Overdrive® is its simplicity. The software system is quick to integrate and built with a user friendly interface. PLM believes technology should help you save time, and Overdrive® does just that for land professionals working in oil and gas.
In 2018, Jesse partnered with Fort-Worth natives, Will Northern and Frank Darden, to found HSS Development. The real estate development company designs and redevelops commercial properties in Fort Worth’s Historic Southside.
One of Jesse's earliest forays into real estate was the development of the historic Winfield Place. Winfield Place, once known as Winfield Garage, is one of the original parking garages in Downtown Fort Worth.
Along with his co-founder of PLM, Bryan Cortney, Hejny purchased the locally listed historic landmark as a commercial office building for Purple Land Management’s corporate headquarters.
Inside the 40,000 square foot building, you will find the world’s first and only elevator conference room. The functional mobile meeting room was the original car lift from 1919 that once transported cars to each level of the garage. Nearly $7 million was spent on buying and converting the 98-year-old Winfield building into an open, millennial-friendly work environment. In 2017, Purple Land Management was honored with the Preservation Project Award from Historic Fort Worth, Inc. for the restoration.
Coaching
One of Jesse’s first and greatest passions in life is coaching. The former college athlete was offered a high school football coaching position fresh out of college before ultimately deciding to enter the energy industry. His passion for mentoring kids on and off the field never left. Now, with three sons of his own, he’s gone back to his roots. In 2018, Jesse took an official position at All Saints’ Episcopal school as their middle school football coach.
Staying Connected
Through the North Texas Community Foundation Jesse and his wife, JimAnne, have proudly created a philanthropic portfolio that endorses their community and values.
In addition to his philanthropic efforts, Jesse also serves as an Advisory Board Member to Kairos Aerospace and consultant to Energy Innovation Capital.
Leaders in Energy Award
In April of 2017, Jesse and his Purple Land Management co-founder, Bryan Cortney, received the Leaders in Energy award by the Texas Christian University Energy Institute. They were honored for their commitment to the energy industry and praised for their innovative data management software Overdrive®.
Football and Academics
Jesse was recruited from Butte Community College on a full scholarship to play football at Texas Christian University. After four years as a student athlete, Jesse graduated the university in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. Today, he serves on the TCU Chancellor’s Advisory Board and is an active member of the TCU Lettermen’s Association with his wife JimAnne, a fellow former student athlete who played basketball and track and field.
Jesse and his wife JimAnne met while they were both student athletes at Texas Christian University. She was a basketball and track star; he was on the football team.
In the summer of 2005, they got married in JimAnne’s hometown of Cisco, Texas. The couple currently lives in Aledo, Texas with their three sons: Hauss, Beau, and Jhett.
